Citizenship in Canada is offered either through naturalization or by taking birth in Canada. There is a huge number of prospective immigrants of Canada who are quite interested in getting their citizenship in Canada. For any candidate, to become a Canadian citizen, they first have to be a permanent resident of Canada.

Who Can Apply?

As per the current immigration law, for any candidate to qualify for citizenship along with naturalization, they must have qualified for three years of permanent resident status during the past five years.

To become a citizen of Canada, most of the candidates must have the following;

Candidate should have permanent residence
They must live for atleast 1,095 days in last 5 years in Canada
Should file taxes for atleast 3 years of last 5 years.
Candidates have to pass their citizenship test
Fluent in either English or French
Should not have any criminal prohibition

How to Apply?

To apply for the citizenship application. The candidate will get their application package first that will be including instruction guidelines and all the forms that are needed to be filled. After filling out all the necessary forms accurately the application will be needed to be submitted. All the applications are then sent to Sydney’s Citizenship Office which is located in Nova Scotia. All these applications are then pre-screened to make sure that the 3-year residence rule is met or not and the application is complete. After the completion of the application submission, the candidates must then attend an interview session within 12 months after submission of the application form. The purpose interview is to display the candidate’s knowledge related to official language of Canada.
