Study Permit in Canada is required if one wants to have a program of 6 months or more in Canada. Moreover, if an individual requires a coop or internship, study permission needs to be taken. Also, it is required if a minor accompanies his or her parent(s) who are in Canada as a visitor. Lastly, if someone belongs from a visa-exempt country, he or she needs to have a study permit.
The study permit is valid for 1 year for children of primary school (1st to 8th grades). Later, it requires renewal. It is valid also for secondary school (grades 9th to 12th grades), college or university. It has the same length of the study program and an additional 90 days, which can extend up to a maximum of 4 years. Next, the minor children who are studying in Quebec can also opt for it. It has the same length as CAO – Quebec Acceptance Certificate. Lastly, the students changing their designated learning institutions at the same level program do not require a new Study Permit but he or she must update this information on the CIC account.
